I remember reading Carlos Castaneda's books in the late 70's and how everyone thought he was the greatest. His book was exceptionally thought provoking and worth learning about. The issue later has to do with what one is willing to commit to in becoming a seer. Usually this type of training begins early in life under the tutelage of a mystic, someone who has already mastered being a seer.

Another good book was Autobiography of a Yogi by by Paramahansa Yogananda and W. Y. Evans-Wentz. 1946

    https://www.amazon.com/Autobiography-Reprint-Philosophical-library-First/dp/1565892127/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=autobiography+of+a+yogi&qid=1567945820&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzM1lHTUpZNjJHVU1KJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwOTE0MzgyMTFIWjRHOVlOUlhDNSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwOTQ4OTMxSDJOQThGOVU4M1FLJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

One of the Top 100 Spiritual Books of the Twentieth Century. This is a new edition, featuring previously unavailable material, of a true spiritual classic. Autobiography of a Yogi is one of the best-selling Eastern philosophy titles of all-time, with millions of copies published. New Bonus Materials added to this edition include: a) the last chapter that Yogananda wrote in 1951 covering the years 1946–1951 that was not originally available in the first edition (and without posthumous changes), b) the eulogy that Yogananda wrote for Gandhi, and c) a new afterword by Swami Kriyananda, one of Yogananda's closest direct disciples. Yogananda's masterpiece has been named one of the greatest and most influential books of the twentieth century. This highly prized verbatim reprinting of the original 1946 edition is (unlike other publishers' editions) free from textual changes made after Yogananda's death. Yogananda was the first yoga master of India whose mission brought him to live and teach in the West. His firsthand account of his life experiences in India includes childhood revelations, stories of his visits to saints and masters in India, and long-secret teachings of yoga and Self-realization that he first made available to the Western reader.

I think perhaps it's time to revisit my old spiritual friend's work. It was inspirational during those early years of exploration into different spiritual Masters.

Another set that was mind expanding back then was Life and Teaching of the Masters of the Far East (6 Volume Set)
    by Baird T. Spalding.

ELEVEN MEN embarked upon a journey in 1894 with one objective:
...to find the great spiritual teachers of the Far East and witness their uncommon abilities.

Since these Masters were scattered over a wide territory that covered a large portion of India, Tibet, China, and Persia, they knew it could take years of searching many secluded villages and hidden mountain communes. Planning each step of the journey became a challenge knowing that countless miles of rugged terrain separated the remote and isolate locations that were imperative to the exploration. Even though they could plot their route on a map and see where they were headed, the destination deep within the souls of eleven scientifically trained men remained uncertain. Baird T. Spalding and the others were practical in nature and the thought of spiritual masters performing miracles seemed impossible. Despite these suspect thoughts, something compelled them to move onward. So they did.

Here is the link to Carlos Castaneda's books. The audio The Art of Dreaming looks interesting and is free.

Some of the audio books would be interesting to listen to while painting or on the treadmill. It's been a long time since I was into this and found that period of life one of expanding awareness as to the potential of the human mind when focused on spiritual practices. Utterly awesome.

Thanks for the links Carol Flowers

Life and teachings of the Masters of the far East and Autobiography of a Yogi are still on my book shelf today.

These were extraordinary times I would say with fantastic books to read.
A turning point in Consciousness for the Western people and a way for them to open new doors in the Spiritual realm.

Don Juan's teachings really set me on the path.
I realized recently that all the other avenues I have been exploring since related to these matters ( and there are many and seemingly different ) have allowed me
to understand these first shamanic teachings more and more.
    Which is quite fascinating.
Going full circle. You know it's a bit like one's first love, Castaneda's book and what they did to me hold a very special place in my Heart  Cheerful

    Love from me
